and how it impacts important decisions in the long term…

Let’s take a minute to realize how many decisions we take in our lives, from which restaurant to order lunch from, to which political party/representative to vote for, it’s huge right our whole life is a series of decisions we take every day but have you ever thought that how in this modern era AI is taking an important part in almost every decision you make. It’s estimated that the average adult makes about 35,000 remotely conscious decisions each day. Each decision, of course, carries certain consequences with it that are both good and bad. And with the advent of AI, it has taken, influenced, or eliminated many such decisions for us.

With the advent of the 21st century, Artificial Intelligence has taken great momentum in almost every industry from manufacturing to healthcare. With such popularity, humans are trying to develop AI models to help us take better and fast decisions in various instances. Let’s take a primitive example like asking your AI-powered personal assistant (Google Assistant, Alexa, Siri, etc) whether you should carry an umbrella on a particular day. The assistant would help you decide whether to take or not by calculating various parameters like humidity, precipitation probability, etc. in most such cases the decision is more accurate and reliable than you would make and will also save your time. Similar examples include which public transport to take to reach a place at a particular time, which route to follow while driving to avoid traffic jams etc.

Everyone loves to watch movies and tv series, listen to music, read new books, dine out, and do online shopping. AI plays an important part in what you watch, read or buy, it is the recommender systems running behind YouTube or other streaming sites that suggest you which video to watch next taking into consideration your likes dislikes, previous watch history, geographical location, and many other factors. Most often with suggestions, they modify your interests and helps you find out or discover your area of interest. Most of the ads you encounter, to the products you end up buying online, are directly or indirectly decided by AI. Often these small decisions every day from suggesting which movie to watch to which song to listen, which Facebook group to join, which page to follow on Instagram it conditions our whole decisions making system, as much so that it can even affect whom we vote for in the next general election.
